A couple of weeks back, I finally caved and got myself a GitHub account and uploaded my work there. In addition to all of that, all scripts currently found here have been moved to GPLv3 licensing, with pretty much no changes save for a couple things with Enthusiast.

If you’re interested in the Enthusiast changes, if Enth works for you now, you don’t have a reason to update to 3.1.16. However, if you have been keen on getting it to work with WordPress, this will help with that. I am still testing out a barebones WordPress plugin, but hopefully I’ll get it tested well enough and put that up as well (likely GitHub and not the WordPress plugin directory, but we’ll see).

For most of you, the change of licensing does not mean a thing. You will still be able to use Enthusiast for whatever use you may see fit. For some of you who like to tinker with code, well, this means you can modify and release your modified version of Enthusiast (under the same license), provided I am credited.

Moving forward, I will be updating Indiscripts and removing the downloadable files from here soon, while everything else continuous on at GitHub–with the username
angelasabas
(please note, I am not the usual
angelamaria
on there!). You can download the scripts by clicking on the “Downloads” button on the project page. Separate upgrade zips are not needed nor available–config file samples have been renamed for your overwriting pleasure (and safety).

enthusiast

enthusiast-lite (this is the Enthusiast 2.x codebase, which I believe a minority still use due to it being a standalone management tool as opposed to Enth3′s larger scope)

siteskin

onho

lj-magpie

If you’re interested in finding out why and how this change came about, I’ve just posted about it on my blog. :)

A security vulnerability for Enthusiast 3 has been detected a few days back, and I’ve been notified just tonight about it. I do have a security fix up, and with that said — Enthusiast 3.1.5 is an important security upgrade, most especially if your server has
register_globals
on.

Please download the upgrade zip or the full zip if you prefer. The upgrade will be slightly more painful than the previous upgrades.

Before I get on with the upgrade instructions after the cut, I would like to take this time to say I apologize for the lack of updates and the sudden hiatus of Frontend Friday — I’ve moved houses and things have been rather crazy the past couple weeks. I haven’t forgotten this blog, I swear ;)

And now for the upgrade instructions. This is all in the upgrade zip, not to worry. :)

Important notice: the upgrade is not as simple as the previous upgrades, hence the additional instructions. Do not blindly overwrite your
config.php
file!

Overwrite the following files on your Enthusiast 3 main installation using the files found in the upgrade zip:

enth3/show_enthversion.php

enth3/show_join.php

enth3/show_joined.php

enth3/show_lostpass.php

enth3/show_owned.php

enth3/show_update.php

Open the
config.php
file found in this zip and fill in your database information. For each listing you own, you must overwrite your
config.php
file for that listing with this new configuration file. Please don’t forget to change the listing ID variable to the correct listing ID!

The following may be optional, depending on your setup, but highly recommended for forward compatibility and ensured security — you will need to update your code snippets to use the PHP constant
ENTH_PATH
instead of the PHP variable
$path
, like so:

<?php include 'config.php';
$show_list = false;
include ENTH_PATH . 'show_joined.php'; ?>

The
install.txt
file included in the upgrade zip will contain all the new code snippets if you need to take a look.

Please upgrade your Enthusiast installations as soon as possible. If you encounter issues with this upgrade, please feel free to post comments regarding the issues.

Remember: You must also overwrite the config file found in your collective. Basically, all configuration files except for the one inside your Enth3 administration panel will need to be updated.

Remember #2: By “code snippets”, I mean all code snippets, including the collective code snippets, and the fanlisting code snippets. In that regards, it means that the config file for your collective and each of your fanlistings will need to be updated. The process is similar to when you first set up your websites — take the config file with the commented listing ID line and put it in the collective web root, and then take the same config file, uncomment the listing ID line and plug in the correct ID, and put it in the listing web root. Rinse and repeat. :)

I’ve been testing Enthusiast 3.1.4 on Aking Mahal for a few weeks now, and now I’ve released Enthusiast version 3.1.4, which incorporates a number of bug fixes plus a special feature — special because it gets added at a bugfix-level upgrade.

This update includes:

Added mass rejection of new members feature

Fixed bug where PEAR Mail class gets called twice when joining in certain server and/or website settings

Fixed bug where showing/hiding of member emails do not get updated correctly when members update their information

Fixed bug where there are still target attributes in links for the fanlisting statistics

Fixed bug where non-numerical offsets are allowed in the pagination query

I’ve been vocal about not adding a mass-rejection feature for Enthusiast, but in the interest of helping those of us whose fanlistings get spammed, and the goal to make sure Enthusiast caters to an ever wider audience due to its openness and flexibility, I’ve finally added the feature in. However, as this is just one additional feature, I decided not to bump up the version to 3.2, as it feels rather sad that way ;)

You can download the full 3.1.4 release, or get an upgrade zip file instead.

If there are problems with regards to this upgrade, please feel free to leave comments, however all regular troubleshooting requests and support-related questions should be directed to the Enthusiast support forum at CodeGrrl. Thanks!

Gabrielle wrote an Enthusiast anti-spam addon, which may be useful for those of you whose listings have been targeted by spambots. Please check it out if you have this problem, as this may work for you. Thanks so much to Gabrielle for doing this. <3

On the subject of Enthusiast, I would like to assure everybody that I have not “abandoned ship”. Believe you me, I’ve been through a lot because of Enthusiast, from disgruntled users who swear at me or my script, to people who have ripped my script and claimed it as their own. Yes, I have thought of “abandoning ship” plenty of times, and I suppose this might keep happening far into the future.

But I haven’t thrown in the towel just yet.

That doesn’t mean, however, that everything will be oh-so-fine and dandy and scripts will get chugged out of this scripts archive/tech blog at a steady pace. I wish I could, but there are only 24 hours a day, and seven days a week. I am no longer a college student, as the case was when I started Enthusiast all those years ago and virtually no one knew about it.

(I started to break down my time in an attempt to show just how scrapped for time I am, but I decided not to let it go that far.)

Enthusiast is not the only thing I have to put my time on. I have three blogs, and none of them even get updated as regularly as I like. My first love is creative writing, but I can’t even allot proper time for that. If you look at my fanlistings, a whole chunk of them haven’t even had new layouts in a year, some of them over two! I’ve even relegated to using layouts made by others in my journal (and maybe others) in an attempt to cut down on whatever coding I need to do. I’m a developer/designer, coding is what I do, but I can’t have time to whip up a quick CSS file to customize my own things. How sad is that?

Enthusiast is not the only thing I want to do. I have three scripts I want to create, one script that desperately needs a revamp (and I mean really desperately, but guess what? Enth development is still ranked higher), and I have a couple of others (featured here) that needs an update sometime soon. They’re all competing for attention, and I’m trying to manage it all, along with my work as a Yahoo, the little things we need to do daily so that we continue living, take care of my health, interact with the people around me.

That said, Enthusiast is important to me. I don’t think any one of you who are using it can claim that Enthusiast is more important to them than it is to me. It is important to you only so far as it helps you maintain your fanlistings, but Enth as an entity by itself is useless to you. You’re free to move to other scripts if you find Enthusiast lacking, I’m not stopping you.

To those of you who have shown me support, who help others with their Enthusiast installations, who have donated a little bit to my tip jar for my efforts…I thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Your show of support does not go unnoticed, and they continue to fuel the work here when times are tough. <3

I was waiting to get a few more bugfixes rolled into this release, but I decided I should just get this up first and then worry about the other bugs as they come in. I’m afraid the PEAR Mail issues still aren’t resolved, but I mean to get it sorted out a little better soon. I’m also looking into a better way to work on Enthusiast; if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to pipe up. ;) I’ve already started using Bazaar to track changes, so hopefully that helps.

The full Enth download has been updated to 3.1.1, and there is also a 3.1.1 upgrade zip file which will contain only the updated files.

The list of changes are below:

Fixed bug that prevents showing of owned listings with different statuses in one page due to a function declaration

Renamed get_category_children to get_enth_category_children function to make Enthusiast compatible with WordPress

Fixed bug that does not replace $$stat_totalaffiliates$$ with the proper value in listing statistics template

Fixed bug that prevents putting join, update, and lost password forms in one page due to function declaration

Fixed bug that says email sending to a certain email address failed before last-resort PHP mail() mailing takes place

Fixed errors on parsing image URLs if on Windows servers

If image uploading fails, folder will be CHMODed to 755 then 777 to upload image; if CHMODed to 777, folder will be CHMODed back to 755 after uploading

Half-fixed bug that doesn’t show empty child categories whose children have listings in them (read: personally not happy with the fix)

Fix neglected listings notification bug that incorrectly states they have not been updated when a new year starts

Fix bug that doesn’t update the member’s “show email” setting when they try changing it using the update form

Fix bug that doesn’t remove underscores from the additional fields’ delete record field in the update form

I’m finally releasing Enth 3.1 after quite some time. :) I meant to release earlier, but because of some weather-related problems, I had to postpone it for a bit. I’m inclined to postpone it a little more but I figure I should just get this over and done with!

Enthusiast 3.1.0 has the following new features (for the full list, please view the changelog):

Added the following listing statistics: growth rate, number of countries, collective categories, newly-added/updated affiliates, total number of affiliates, random affiliate and random member

New admin panel look plus dashboard

Neglected listings notification (two months without updates)

Multi-level categories

Multiple categories for joined and owned listings

Error logging

New owned template variables for growth rate, number of countries, and new members

If added/approved template is blank, no email is sent out to added/approved members

Check all checkbox for approving members

Multi-level-and-field sorting of the members list

Option for vistors to not send their information to themselves when joining

PEAR Mail for better email sending via fanlisting/admin panel, via sendmail

Inclusion of collective statistics (no need for addon)

An online demo is, again, available at the Enthusiast features page. Feel free to check it out.

Online documentation of Enthusiast is also now fully available, and most the the new documentation has been delegated to it — if you see anything amiss there, please feel free to correct me. ;) Being around the scripts so much, I might sometimes skip over some documentation errors.

A fresh installation can be downloaded here as well as an upgrade script if you’re already using Enthusiast 3.0 — it contains all the new files (well, virtually EVERYTHING) plus a script you will have to run to update your database. Please go here to download the script; if you have having problems, try the quick download page.

Please note that some addons may not be needed anymore with 3.1, or might not work as expected, such as the conversion script from Fanbase. I’ll be working to update those in the next few days. :)

Much thanks to my beta testers — their help weeding out the bugs is greatly appreciated plus they got a lot of the kinks out. :) :x A few may remain, though, as with any script — if you find any, please feel free to head on over at CodeGrrl and we’ll see about that. :)

Please remember to back up your databases before upgrading your installations. ;)

Hope you guys like the new version. :)

Yesterday was quite a busy day for me! I added various pages to Indiscripts, notably in the new Documentation section of Enthusiast: Documentation for Enthusiast 2.x, Changelog (for 3.1, though, even though it’s not yet released!), and I’ve redone the Road Map a little bit. :) The latter is now clearer in terms of what plans I have for Enthusiast.

Notably, I have also uploaded online demos — this isn’t a new thing for Enth 2.x, but you may be interested in the online demo for Enth 3.x — after all, what’s loaded is 3.1, and not 3.0 :) It’s not yet released but I’m putting it up as a sneak preview of sorts. December is just a few days away, after all. These demos will “reset” everyday at 3am (server time) — all data will be deleted from the demos and reloaded with a “clean” install. Additionally, you won’t be able to send/receive email from either of these demos; for 3.x, certain sections are disabled.

If you’re interested in taking a peek of what’s up with 3.1, head on over to the Enthusiast features page to find out. :)
